General Information

The Morá Miriam Rozen Gerber Fellowship was established by the TVML Foundation with the aim to support Brazilian postdoctoral fellows at the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Candidates may apply for this fellowship in any field of research at the Weizmann Institute.

This program provides a two-year fellowship that is funded by the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Please note that acceptance to the program depends on approval by the Feinberg Graduate School; acceptance by a host research lab at Weizmann Institute; and academic achievements.

 

 

Minimum requirements

The fellowship is awarded to exceptionally qualified Brazilian candidates. Applicants for this program must meet the following requirements:

· Hold Brazilian citizenship or have Brazilian residency.
· Meet the academic requirements of the Weizmann Institute of Science.
· Have a PhD or MD degree from accredited institution of higher learning, or alternatively, a confirmation from such an institution of fulfillment of the requirements of a doctorate, including submission of a thesis.
· Have received confirmation of the doctorate no more than four years prior to the designated start date of The Morá Miriam Rozen Gerber Fellowship Program.


Deadline

The deadline for the call which will support the winner for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic years: March 2, 2021.

A cientista carioca Camila Freze Baez Nascimento conquista a bolsa de pós-doutorado “The Mora Miriam Rozen Gerber Fellowship” em 2018

Camila Freze Baez Nascimento, carioca, 29 anos, é a nova bolsista de pós-doutorado “The Morá Miriam Rozen Gerber Fellowship”, para continuar seus estudos no Instituto Weizmann de Ciências, Israel. A bolsa integral, destinada exclusivamente a brasileiros, tinha como requisito essencial a excelência acadêmica.

Graduada em Biomedicina na  Universidade Federal Fluminense, UFF, Niterói, com Mestrado  em Microbiologia e Parasitologia Aplicadas na mesma universidade e Doutorado em Medicina (Doenças Infecciosas e Parasitárias) pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, UFRJ, a pesquisa da Camila no Brasil procurava ajudar a melhorar o entendimento científico sobre o papel dos vírus em cânceres de pele.

No Instituto Weizmann, vai ser parte de um grupo pioneiro na identificação de um novo tipo de comunicação das células tumorais com as demais: a passagem de RNA – uma descoberta que abriu uma Infinidade de possibilidades de pesquisa. O laboratório de “Tráfego de RNAm e de proteínas” (“mRNA and protein trafficking” ) é liderado pelo prof. Jeffrey Gerst do Departamento de Genética Molecular. “Nossa pesquisa pretende investigar se o RNA transferido de uma célula para outra influenciaria as funções da célula que o recebeu e, se no caso de transferência de RNAs envolvidos com o desenvolvimento tumoral, haveria a transformação de células saudáveis em células tumorais. Essa pesquisa é inovadora em muitos aspectos e poderá, por exemplo, indicar novos caminhos terapêuticos para o câncer.”
